Chefs and Culinarians:

Who doesn’t love this time of the year! This region is once again green and lush. In our local gardens perennial and annual plantings are thriving heralding the beginning of the summer produce season. Menus throughout the Finger Lakes Region of New York State are eagerly showcasing our seasons first arrivals giving them top billing. If you haven’t already, please support our local farmers and utilize the sustainable network available through www.fingerlakesculinarybounty.org. We are extremely lucky to have such a valuable organization that connects our areas food professionals to local farmers.

We had a very educational meeting in May. Our host Steve Holzbaur from Finger Lakes Fresh in Ithaca spoke about hydroponics. They grow a variety of lettuce to include Boston and Leaf as well as Arugula and Basil. The company currently has two facilities and is expanding in the very near future.

As I have stated on a number of occasions, the New York Wine Country Chefs Association exists for the membership, we are committed to growing and improving our organization to meet and exceed the expectations of today’s food professionals. But, to be fully successful in this pursuit, we need your input, your assistance and your support in every step of the way.

Unfortunately our hectic schedules have made our June meeting obsolete, we will resume in July. I will send out notification along with the July newsletter in a few short weeks.

In August, we will be holding our first annual Summer BBQ/Picnic. I am in search of a member or two to oversee and organize this event. Please feel free to contact me to discuss details.

Thank you,

Tom Leonard C.E.C.
